Local Area.
From Mas Terrats...
Figueres - 26 min - Home to the Dali museum! Figueres has a wealth of history spanning many centuries that has been preserved and shown in several museums in the area as well as in the compact Old Town. Being the last major town before the Spanish/French border, it serves as a fantastic base to explore the upper Empordá region that is awash in great food, wines, and beaches that represent the Catalan culture.
Girona City Centre - 40 min - A tight huddle of ancient arcaded houses, grand churches, climbing cobbled streets and medieval baths, and home to fabulous restaurants. Includng El Celler de Can Roca voted best restaurant in the world 2013!
L'Escala - 40 min - nearest seaside town. L'Escala is a small fishing town, famous for it's good quality anchovies. Situated to the north east of Catalonia on the southern edge of the Bay of Roses, L'Escala is surrounded by fabulous sandy beaches.
Roses - 45 mins - A more touristy destination the former Greek colony of Roses stretches between the sea and the mountains, right on the Costa Brava. This town in the province of Girona offers a multitude of beaches and coves among rocky cliffs.
The below places are our personal favourites! a bit further out but well worth a visit.
Begur - 56 min - Medieval town close to the coast. great place to watch the world go by in the main square bars and restaurants.
Calella de Palafrugell - 1 hr 10 - Coastal village, popular with the locals and fab seafood!
Llafranc - 1hr 10 - Another lovely coastal town with great seafood, slightly more touristy but still a great place.
On our to do list...
Cadaqués - 59 min - Beautiful fishing village relatively protected from mass tourism by a long, winding road through the mountains of Cap de Creus.
